As a Scientist II, Medicinal Chemistry working on the Chemistry department, you will be empowered apply innovative synthetic organic and medicinal chemistry principles and techniques toward the discovery of medicines for oncology based on target protein degradation:

We are searching for a Scientist II to join the Chemistry group within the Research organization. We are seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated individual to progress for expanding our platform technology and pipeline of early clinical development molecules. The responsibility of this position will be to design and synthesize biologically active small molecules with suitable drug-like properties, but also lead medicinal chemistry projects under the supervision of a principal scientist. Strong industry experience of medicinal chemistry ideally in oncology research area and laboratory-based experimental excellence are required for this position.


  • Design, synthesize, and characterize biologically active small molecules with suitable drug-like properties
  • Work well in a small team setting, with ability to work independently and collaboratively while meeting deadlines
  • Collaborate with a broad group of scientists internally (Biology team etc.) and externally (CRO, Pharma, Academia etc.)
  • Lead medicinal chemistry projects and/or platform development
  • Desire to focus on breakthroughs in an exciting and fast-paced startup environment
  • Maintain a broad awareness of the scientific and technological landscapes of organic synthesis, medicinal chemistry and drug discovery
  • Educate junior class researchers


  • Ph.D. or MSc in organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, chemical biology, or related discipline, with at least 5 years of industrial experience in drug discovery
  • Experience in a synthetic organic chemistry laboratory having demonstrated multistep synthesis, purification and characterization of compounds
  • Efficiently maintain experimental records and prepare study reports
  • Strong experimental skills of synthetic organic chemistry
  • Oral and written Japanese language skills that allows for smooth communication with colleagues and administrative tasks
  • Outstanding oral and written English skills for discussion, negotiation, explanation, and/or evaluation with abroad researchers such as CROs, Phama, Academia and venders
  • Ability to present rationale, key data, issues, solution and accomplishments to project teams
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative team environment, abroad working experience is an advantage
  • Basic knowledge and practical experience in intellectual property
  • Basic knowledge of pharmacology and DMPK-tox required to perform medicinal chemistry research


  • Experience of project lead
  • Work experience in protein degraders, bRo5 molecules, combinatorial chemistry, chemical biology, peptide chemistry or oncology drug discovery
  • Data analysis skills, including proficiency with commonly used software
  • Knowledge of chemoinformatics and/or IT technologies
  • Class-A Hazardous Materials Engineer license in Japan
